In contrast to the tax benefits of depreciation known from the past, in present-day shipping investments priority is given to long-term economic efficiency and earning power. This form of corporate participation gains additional attractiveness through the tonnage tax granted in many countries – a lump-sum determination of taxable income among shipping companies – which makes the earnings nearly tax-exempt.

Hanseatic Lloyd pursues the principle of a conservative and sound financing policy for the whole fleet that it operates and supports. To the benefit of the investors, we at Hanseatic Lloyd, but also at the Hansa Mare Reederei in which we hold a 50 % share, work with various international and national banking consortia made up of Federal state banks, private banks and ship mortgage banks on the basis of a relationship of trust. As of the end of 2010, the overall investment volume amounted to more than EUR 1.37 billion.
Our experience based on 38 ship projects since 1992 with over 6,000 private and institutional investors is applied in every new ship project. A large proportion of the investors repeatedly invested in our vessels. By the end of 2010 we at Hanseatic Lloyd and Hansa Mare were able to place a total of 513 million Euro in equity capital on the German investment market. Substantial equity contributions by the shipping group document the high degree of equality of interests between investors and the Hanseatic Lloyd shipping company as the initiator of the ships.
A trust company represents and watches over the interests of the investors in all projects of the Hanseatic Lloyd shipping company . This guarantees optimal support for all shareholdings as well as use of the funds as defined within the framework of the allocation of resources.
